Hey there. A couple things.
I got an email recently from a Lance reader urging me to stop procrastinating and write a novel. She lives in my hometown. We went to high school together, played soccer together and last year reconnected via Facebook. Come to think of it, she urged me to stop procrastinating and write a novel around this same time last year.
Apparently I’m terrible at taking advice.
I love this thing. I really do. I love taking it to bed at night and typing awkwardly with Joe asleep on my shoulder and the pug asleep at my feet. I love waking up and musing about something arbitrary pulled from what can only be described as an arsenal of erratic rapid-fire thoughts. I love sharing stories with you.
I’ve run into people –– otherwise strangers –– at the grocery store, at a concert, at a bar, or out walking their dogs, who tell me they read this blog. It’s the kind of flattery writers kill for and in a sense, a wake-up call.
So, I’m taking a break. Not quitting the Lance. Just … well … conducting a little experiment in which I actually take my former classmate’s advice to heart.
I promise to continue to post –– just a lot less frequently. I have too many stories percolating that I refuse to let stew. And it’s not like I can’t do both, but as anyone with ADD knows, focus is a valuable mental capacity.
